Some of us just went hand in hand to war, it didn't matter if we was black or white, we died as men when the confederates pushed towards Atlanta
My name is " Byambadorj Tuvdendorj" and I picked Chapter 9 changing south. This particular chapter has been really fun to read and to do the quiz for it. I'm fascinated by the southern history and their life style. I read an article about southern slaves who joined their masters to fight union troops, and how they won various victories inside the swampy areas and etc. They were very brave and honorable like their confederate counter parts.
The Reason I picked South Carolina was that the state has alot of history compared to it's other southern counter parts. I hope to supply this information to all my classmates, also to my professor who is grading this information.
My favorite Introduction Passage
" The South is singular int he depth and persistence of its regionality. It's people have a deeper sense of where they live
as a culture region than do residents of any other part of the United States. Certainly, people elsewhere."
South Carolina-Regions and Themes
The state of South Carolina was founded by the colonists around 1671. The colony was named after King Charles of England's father Carolus is Latin for Charles.
The colony was oringinally known as Provenice of Carolina. When the other half of the state succeeded from the Union it was called South Carolina(Capital Columbia). The definition of region in this case would be South Carolina and North Carolina, in terms geopgrahers subdivided North Carolina and South Carolina into broad areas of distinctive character, terming these areas as regions. Most people have probebly never have heard of S. Carolina, other than their famous arrival N. Carolina and University of N. Carolina (Duke), but on the geopgrical map it falls under preceived regions of the United States as the term "South". South Carolina is very hot and humid, and definiton to describe such a place can be said " Hell" in southern term meaning " Hot". North Carolina is borded to the North by North Carolina and to the south the state of Georgioa.

S.Carolina is composed of thirty sex regions and it's state or regional boundries are almost parallel or next the atlantic ocean.
South Carolina is bordered to the north by North Carolina; to the south and west by Georgia, located across the Savannah River; and to the east by the Atlantic Ocean.
South Carolina is composed of thirty-six geographic areas, whose boundaries roughly parallel the northeast/southwest Atlantic coastline. In the Southeast part of the state is the Coastal Zone, with the lowest elevations, which is divided into three separate areas, the Grand Strand, the Santee River Delta, and the Barrier Islands. The region stretches only about 15 miles inland from the Atlantic Ocean from the state's northern border of North Carolina and its southern border of Georgia. To the Northwest (inland) are the Coastal Plains, often divided into the Outer and Inner Coastal Plains is commonly just referred to as the Coastal Plain and one of South Carolina's major cities, Florence is located there. Further inland, and higher in elevation are theSandhills, which used to be South Carolina's fall line. Inland from the Sandhills is the Piedmont, which is hilly. The Piedmont also contains many major cities including Greenville, Rock Hill, and Spartanburg. The region with the highest elevation, in the Northwest of the state, is the Mountains, that is the smallest geographical region in the state.
The state's coastline contains many salt marshes and estuaries, as well as natural ports such as Georgetown and Charleston. An unusual feature of the coastal plain is a large number of Carolina bays, the origins of which are uncertain. One prominent theory suggests that they were created by a meteor shower. The bays tend to be oval, lining up in a northwest to southeast orientation. The terrain is flat and the soil is composed entirely of recent sediments such as sand, silt, and clay. Areas with better drainage make excellent farmland, though some land is swampy. The natural areas of the coastal plain are part of the Middle Atlantic coastal forests ecoregion.[3]
South Carolina-Foundations of Human Activity
were used to the harsh conditions of the carribean during the monsoon seasons that were quite similar to S. Carolina's humid tropical storm conditions that happen very rarly. Most of the inhabits who settled there were able to grow crops deep in the fertile soils of the swamp. In otherwords, it is easy to plant and grow potatoes for example in the wetlands of a swamp, then persay the dry soils of Arizona. Despite the their humid weather, they do get up to 2.5cm of snow fall each year. The state has strong identity with their settlers who are still in love with the confederate flag, due to them being the first state to succeed from the Union and started the conferederate state of America.

The city has about 133 people per square ft. most of the inhabitants of the city are working class people and they too make $39,000 USD a year annually.
South Carolina-The North American Manufacturing Core
South Carolina falls just outside of the manufacturing core of North America. They product alot of car parts that is necessary for the economy to operate. Products of the state is crucial to the state's employment rate, they support and take care of their state people very well. The major product they manufacture is honda parts one at a time, not like a assembly line, their product is very sought after. South Carolina- Canada's National Core
The state of South Carolina under south of Canada's National Core is the total opposite of canada's national core. The national core for canada is entirely within the proviences of Quebec and Ontatio. It is located north of vermont, new york, pennsylvania, and Ohio. The state was especially hard hit by the 2008 economic crisis. As of January 2010, the states unemployment rate is 12.6%. The state has a very high employment rate compared to the canadian faction, other then that everything is okay. S. Carolina has lots frost free period(average length in days), compared to Canada. S. Carolina has lots of rural areas just like Canda, but most of the rural areas in S. Carolina can be used to help the state, instead of the canadian shield has lots of natural mineral stores like oil, and mining reserves.
Spartaburg, South Carolina is the downtown of the state, and the citizens speak primarely English with a souther accent. In the otherhand, the canadian population speaks french in quebec and english in otawa, and they had this despite for a while. The French Indian war consisted of native tongue despite that started the conflict in the first place.
South Carolina-The Empty Interior
The state has quite the reserve of wildlife that is used to hunt and eat for the farming industry. The state has one of the view quel population that is found in the whole of U.S. One of the executive members of Enron Coporation was a great hunter of animals in that state. Lots of the hunters from all around the world to hunt wild hogs, one of the view hogs left in the State resides there. Also, snakes of S.Carolina are very rempent, and last of all gators are the main attraction of the state. One one really knows how these soft creatures ever made it to the state, but it has always been there.
South Carolina has lots of praries, dandelines, and gold leaf daisies, which is very rare in the South. Lots of countries famous artists from Tenessee go to South. Carolina to film their loves song to illustrate to their feelings of what a country side is suppose to look like. Also, one of the scenes from the original superman movie was filmed there, the part where young farm boy superman was running through the field. The great variety and appeal of the empty interiors scenic wonders attracts millions of visitors each year. The gederal government controls most of the major attractions.
Although the United States of American and Mexico are linked by common border more thatn 1000 miles long, much share culture, and a tradition of peacful relations, contrasts between the Mexican and californian sides are dramatic at Tijuana because of the fence, the only other in S. Carolina is North Carolina. The state of North Carolina has Micheal Jordan who played for the blue devils, and it is a very famous state in deed. The Southern Counterpart that does not have a major team of any sorts, but they do have a pretty good minor league baseball team called " The green gators". The only little know american indian population that existed in the area was called Chickasaw. My 11th grade history teacher was a chickasaw indian.
California's image of beach oriented land of surfers shortchanges teh great diversity of people and environments in the state. I picked this section to be included in S. Carolina's past because first of all I grew up in santa monica, california and I learned to play basketball and bodyboard when i was like 8 years old. I knew that this was my state due to the fact that this is the best thing that i can do to myself by graduating from a school in California. S. Carolina's coast is lined with little to non rock formations, it has a coast that is similar to California's except the summer time is about 3 months, compared to California's all around summer. The myrtyle beach of South Carolina's is same as the myrtyle beach of California, and that includes Santa Monica and Hermosa Beach as well.
Most of the people that I know in S. Carolina, is my girlfriends friend named Kyle Butler. Who works for the South Carolina's Forensics Department, and that is pretty cool in my opinion. Kind of like the show Dexter, which i really like, most of the time i try to look at how all this might relate to the subject but i think one of the best forensics departments in the east is from S. carolina.
The northlands consists of Alberta, Newfoundland, and Manitoba. It is extremely cold year around, with little sunshine. The high value Americans and Canadians attach to land ownership, by comparison with most Europeans, stems in part from the widespread availability of land and the drive to possess it that helped push settlement westward. I think S.Carolina does have a harsh winter like the northlands, but it does make it difficult to farm with all the frost that is coming in from the North. In the north virutally all major food crops need a growing season longer than that, crops are raised in just few small areas along the Northland's souther margins.
Mining and Petroleum is found in the northlands, but on the other hand, S. Carolina does not have any major resources, it makes it up for being able to grow tobacco without the slaves and tariffs.
South Carolina-Hawaii
S. Carolina has no real geological formations like the volcano's that errupt almost everyday like in Hawii. I heard that the local in hawaii does not really like tourists, other then they help the economy of the state little bit. Our president is from Hawaii Obama, he did go to S. Carolina to view the newly established BMW manufacturing plant that is in Spartanburg, SC.
The early european impact that came to S. Carolina is morman's and then later the Irish who came to settle there, many of the residents of all 80 countries have at least 24% Irish in them.
Spartaburg, South Carolina is the downtown of the state, and the citizens speak primarely English with a souther accent. In the otherhand, the canadian population speaks french in quebec and english in otawa, and they had this despite for a while. Religion
South Carolina, like most other Southern states, has a Protestant Christian majority, and a lower percentage of non-religious people than the national average. The religious affiliations of the people of South Carolina are as follows:
- Christian: 92%
- Protestant: 84%
- Southern Baptist: 45%
- Methodist: 15%
- Presbyterian: 5%
- Other Protestant: 19%
- Roman Catholic: 7%
- Other Christian: 1%
- Protestant: 84%
- Other Religions: 1%
- Non-Religious: 7%
South Carolina-The Bypassed East
North of South Carolina is North Carolina, Massachusetts, and The Bypassed East consisting of " Vermont, New York, Maine, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and Prince Edwards Island. The Island that is associated with S.Carolina in my opinion is the carribean because most of the inhabitants original roots are from the carribean. The State weather is similar to that of the original island that they came from, which is ironic. The Northern portion of southern Caroliana is not too rugged compared to the ruggedness of Nova scotia and Newfoundland, which is a good ground for deep sea crabbing.
Prince Edwards Island is aland of well tended farms, folling hills, and a long, indented coastlines, but S.Carolina's, Carolina forest one of the most prime places to vacation and to retire on.
South Carolina-Appalachia And The Ozarks
South Carolina's future is bright, but heavely depends on house furniture manufacturing and tobacco production. The land is consists of 80 counties and most of the residents have jobs except for 12.3% unemployment rate that is heavely rising in the state. The N.Carolina it's neighbor is up to 8% unemployment rate, and focus on engineering, biotechnology, and fossil fuel for it's stat economics values.
South Carolina-Changing South
The South contains clear contrasts between it's past and its future. Within this region's modern, thriving cities, such as Charlotte, North Carolina, live people who self-consciously maintain attitudes and traditions not too different from those of their great-grandparents. Everyone knows the south for it's slave past, and how it defied the union by withdrawing and helping the war efforts. I picked this state because it has such strong roots with slavery and bravery at the same time. I always was curious about how most states would help people grow as people, and it is one of the only states that has carried it's traditional for decades to come. Instead of becoming Carolina, it has kept it as south and north.
South Carolina- The Southern Coastlands: On The Subtropical Margin
The southern coastalnds climate has a great impact on the regions human geography, especially on S. Carolina. The humidity and subtropical, the climate gives the region mil winter temperature, hostummer, and a long growing seasons. There is a monsoon season that is present around S. Carolina that makes growing croops pretty good, especially southern tobacco. Southern coastalnds farmers produce cash crops that are grown in few other parts of the U.S. and Canada.
The length of the growing seasn consists of combination of southerly location and maritime proximity leads to a long growing season that is prominene tin sufficient precipitation for reliable specialty crop farming. There are major fruits growing in Florida, oranges, grapfruit are the most valuebale in the southern coast lands. After world war 2 personal disposable income and retirement financial security increased in the state. The hazards of the subtropical margin is winter freeze, hurriances, monsoons, and severe heat. Towards the southern part of american it is considered "Hell" because it is hard to stand the severe temperature.
South Carolina-The Agriculutural Core
The North America's interior plains, a gigantic, undulation swath of land, rolls gently from the Applachians to the Rocky. Even though S.Carolina is well out of the reach of the agricultural core, it does produce it's own tobacco and wheat for the growing season.
The main reason I picked S.Carolina, a single lonely state isloated from the other states is that I really like the slavery past that they had, and one of the sources of vodoo comes from this state. When the carribean slave owners came with their slaves, they also brought their vodoo curses and culture with the.
South Carolina- The Great Plains And Prairies
Abbeville county is the only county has major mountains in the whole state of S. Carolina. I think it is intresting that S.Carolina has no mountains almost, other then really fertile marsh lands people can use to plan their crops. The images and ideas of the plains that is described in grapes of wrath the noval definetely did not come fromt his state that is for sure. Some would say that great plains topography and vegetation are among the least varied some would say boring, but in the swamps of S.Carolina, they have lots of flowers and plants, and including my favorite alligators.
One of the serial killers in S. Carolina was dumping bodies in the marshlands, where the gators would eat them up, so non of the authorities would suspect anything of it.
In the state unlike Colorado, where my girlfriend is from it has no tornado's that take place in South Carolina, when i landed on Colorado. i had to stay in the bathroom for 15 mintutes to check if there were any tornados coming my way, because after all safety first.

The Chickasaw territory proper was in northern Mississippi, at a considerable distance from the State under discussion, but about 1753 a body of Chickasaw Indians settled on the South Carolina side of Savannah River, to be near the English trading posts and to keep in contact with the English, who were their allies. Before 1757 most of them moved over to the immediate neighborhood of Augusta and remained there until the period of the American Revolution. In that war they sided against the colonists and their lands were.
